[LYNX PARDINUS] - Iberian Lynx

This Lynx is an own species living in Spain and Portugal and extremely rare. They have a round skull typical of cats and a pronounced whisker five to eight centimetres long. Iberian lynxes have the stubby tail characteristic of lynxes, although the function or use of this atypical shape is unclear. At the ends of the small, triangular ears are three centimetre long brush hairs, which influence the animals‘ hearing and localisation abilities.

[GLAUCIDIUM PASSERINUM] - Pygmy owl
With an height of only 16 to 19 cm the Pygmy owl is the smallest species in Central Europe and counts to the smallest ones worldwide. Because of the size the owl has to hunt at dusk to avoid the bigger owls at night. On the back of the head it has the typical spots, also known as occipital spots, which can look like eyes in certain lighting conditions or only a dark line is recognizable.

Some more birds from my Trip in Costa Rica. There are over 900 different bird species that could not be more diverse. From larger birds like the toucan to centimetre-sized hummingbirds, the sizes and colours of birds vary throughout the country.

In this video I have captured a parrot, a chick in the nest and a toucanet as I was able to observe them in the wild.

[Melanerpes chrysauchen]- Goöden Naped Woodpecker This little bird inhabits a lot of different forests, parks and gardens with trees, almost every type of habitat. They can be found in Nort Africa as well as large parts of northern Eurasia. They are around 23 cm in height and the wing span between 34 and 39 cm. At this size, the great spotted woodpecker is a lightweight weighing up to 90 g. With food they aren’t picky as well. They find it in every part except the forest floor, mainly in the treetops. From animals like insects and small vertebrates the woodpecker also enjoys berries, fruits in general, bird eggs and tree sap.

[PITANGUS SULPHURATUS] - Great kiskadee
The Great kiskadee is a passerine bird and the only species of the genus Pitangus.The bird, which is 22 centimetres long and weighs 63 grams, can be easily recognised by its brown upper plumage, black and white striped head, yellow crown stripe, white throat and yellow underside. It is a rather rebellious and noisy bird, which has no problems defending its territory even against larger competitors. The omnivore feeds mainly on insects, rodents, lizards and frogs, but also occasionally on fruit. Like its species, the little bird is quite capable of catching fish in a dive as well as small bats in flight.
